Vjosa Osmani is the current acting President for the Republic of Kosovo, Chairwoman of the Assembly of Kosovo and the most voted candidate in the past Elections in Kosovo. Osmani has captured the hearts of many Kosovar citizens, as she is charismatic, confident and a role model in the 21st century for women.
Vjosa Osmani was born on the 17th of May 1982, in the municipality of Mitrovica, Kosovo. Osmani finished elementary school and high school in her hometown, and went on to get a bachelor’s degree in the University of Prishtina, where she was the top student in the Faculty of Law and top 5 students in all faculties. In 2005, she completed her Master in Laws from the University of Pittsburgh. During her Master studies in Pittsburgh, Osmani received the ‘Excellence For The Future award’ by the university, twice. Osmani also completed her Doctoral studies at the same university. University of Pittsburgh also awarded her with the ‘Sheth International Achievement Award’ for her contribution to the human rights field. Osmani also speaks five languages, those being: Albanian, English, Serbian, Turkish and Spanish.
Osmani is also a professor, where she teaches courses in the field of Law in Kosovo, while in the University of Pittsburgh she teaches the subject “State Building and Law: The Kosovo Experience”. Osmani is also currently Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Diaspora and Strategic Investments. Previously she served as Chair of the Committee on European Integration and Vice Chair of the Committee on Constitutional Reforms in Kosovo.
Osmani’s political career began during her teen years, where she was an activist for LDK(Democratic League of Kosovo). On august 27, 2009 Osmani was elected as Chief of Staff of the then President of the Republic of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu. Osmani was also a member of the Kosovo assembly for three terms, while in LDK. In the last two terms, Osmani was the most voted woman in Kosovo. In 2019, she was a prospect for Prime Minister of Kosovo by her party LDK. During her campaign, she made remarks that Kosovo is ready for a female Prime Minister, and that she will fight corruption and also promised free market reforms for Kosovo.
Osmani is now the acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, where she was preceded by Hashim Thaçi, who is now in Hague on trial for war crimes. She now has her own independent political party, the ‘Guxo List’, where she created a coalition with VETEVENDOSJE(Self-determination party) and is now looking forward to extending her mandate as the President. Vjosa Osmani is an example of a hard working Albanian Woman. Her accolades tell us that she is more than capable of being a leader in this unfair world.
